The Wisdom of Winnie the Pooh
When I’m writing a funeral ceremony, I try put in a few short but relevant quotes, often from philosophers or writers, or sometimes scientists. The problem I have is remembering which ones I have in my lists and knowing where to find it at the time.
Most celebrants will know that A. A. Milne, writing in the voice of Winnie the Pooh, Christopher Robin or some of the other characters in the stories, is a great source of pithy quotes. Some of them are quite suitable for funerals, depending on the person for whom it is being written. You can’t put them into every funeral that you take, as I’m sure you can imagine.
Some of the quotes are about loss and by implication, grief too. Milne had been a serving officer during the First World War and had almost certainly seen death and suffering at close quarters, including the Battle of the Somme, during which he was injured, requiring evacuation back to Britain.
I have this notion that there should be a lot of suitable Charles Schulz quotes in Charlie Brown but so far, I’ve not found any suitable ones. — If anyone out there has any, or comes across any, I’d be really grateful.
